How do commissions work?

A commissioned painting is a great way to collect a unique, and personalized artwork. Each commission follows a simple process:

1. We first discuss your preference for subject matter, size, and your overall vision for the piece. Begin by filling out this form!

2. I propose one or two basic digital sketches for the composition and colour scheme. Several iterations may be required.

3. Once a concept is mutually agreed upon, a non-refundable deposit of 50% of the total cost is collected.

4. Painting begins. Please allow 4-6 weeks for commissioned pieces. At least one work-in-progress image will be sent for you to give any feedback on.

5. Once the painting is completed I will send final images of the piece for you to verify. Once satisfied, the remaining 50% of the payment is collected, and then your artwork is shipped/picked up. (Note: Shipping costs are calculated and added on separately. Local pickup in Calgary only).

6. Enjoy your new artwork! Thank you for your support!

What are your prices?

My prices are based on canvas area. Feel free to browse my available pieces to compare prices or send me an email for a quote. Commissioned prices are the same as non-commissioned.

I found you through one of your galleries. How do I proceed with a commission?

Please directly contact the gallery where you discovered my work. They will be glad to assist you in starting the commission process.

What sizes and subjects are you able to paint?

I can paint any size of canvas you desire, including diptychs and triptychs. I am also confident to paint most landscapes and environments. I prefer to work based on at least one or two reference images, but even general descriptions are very useful!

What is a digital concept sketch?

Before painting can proceed I need to do some planning of the composition and colour scheme to see what will look most appealing. I use Photoshop to digitally paint an initial concept sketch, and once we find an idea that we agree upon I can pull out the brushes and start painting for real! (see image to the right for a digital concept example)

What medium do you use for your commissioned paintings?

My commissions are all done in acrylics.

Do I need to frame my painting?

Framing is a personal preference. I paint on canvases with 1.5" deep sides that are finished with black paint, which helps them stand out from the wall, so framing is not required (see image to the bottom right).

What is your shipping policy?

Shipping costs are not included in the cost of the painting itself. The shipping costs will be calculated separately on a case by case basis, and will be the responsibility of the client. Worldwide shipping available. Alternatively, delivery in Calgary is available for local residents.

How will my finished painting look?

Each painting will have the canvas sides (1.5" deep) painted black, which gives a sleek, modern look and helps it stand out from the wall. Each piece is finished with multiple layers of Golden isolation coat which seals the paint surface, affording protection from dust, UV resistance, and gives the piece an even, glossy sheen, and enhanced colour vibrancy.
A wire is attached on the back for immediate hanging. I also write the title, my name, and a short description of the piece on the back in pencil.
